There's no other bread on earth that more deserves to be soaked in batter and tossed in a frying pan. Challah is a thick, sweet, golden bread and perfect for a Sunday morning breakfast. Get creative with toppings such as exotic jams, whipped cream, maple syrup, fresh fruit or better yet, a combination of the above! Shabbot Shalom.
Serves: 3
Ingredients
3 Jumbo Eggs
3/4 cup (6oz) of skim milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pad of butter
6-8 slices of challah bread, with crust (sliced about 3/4 in thick)
Topping of your choice! (Good choices: maple syrup, whipped cream, raspberry jam)
Preparation
- Using a large mixing bowl, mix up the eggs, milk, cinnamon and salt.
- Fire up some medium heat and pop a large frying pan on the element. Melt the pad of butter in the pan.
- Take the challah slices and lay them in the egg batter. Depending on how "creamy" you like your french toast, leave in the batter for anywhere from 3 to 7 seconds (each side)
- Transfer saturated slices to frying pan and cook on each side for 3 minutes. Repeat for each challah slice
- Throw on a tasty topping and enjoy!
